The Raye Freedman Arts Centre is a theatre complex situated adjacent to Epsom Girls Grammar School on the corner of Gillies Avenue and Silver Road. It comprises a main auditorium with rehearsal and drama rooms, a well-equipped kitchen, booking office and a large open foyer with a full glass panel fronting Silver Road. The Centre is named after a generous benefactor who surprised and delighted the EGGS community with her philanthropic gesture. Although not an old girl of the school, a lifetime of work left Raye Freedman with a desire to leave something behind while she was still around to see it being enjoyed. This was an ideal project to support and her timely generosity will always be remembered and appreciated. The Auditorium bears the name of a generous former student, Lady Joyce Fisher. Together with the Auckland City Council and the ASB Trusts, the largesse of the principal benefactors ensured that the venue, available to professional and amateur groups, was designed and equipped to the highest standards.
